This latest episode takes us back to a group in February 2019 with one of our Directors & Head Surf Coaches – Garrett. Between our perfect palm tree-fringed beginner beach breaks and our two secret little coves with a left & a right we had the waves covered. This Level 1 Beginner Group consisted of Joan, Dorothy, Chloe, Chad & Sabine.
Watching them progress through from having never ridden a surfboard to being able to catch their own unbroken/green waves and surf across the trim line was such a stoke-filled experience!
Taking on the challenge of surfing for the first time is an amazing achievement and you can really feel the stoke coming across from this group as they build their confidence in the ocean & with their base surf skills!

Interested in learning to surf in Sri Lanka with Talalla Surf Camp? Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the world for beginners to experience surf stoke – many of our guests have never surfed before, but by the end of the week are comfortable catching green (unbroken) waves independently!
We are also one of the few surf schools in Sri Lanka that offers higher-level coaching beyond just surf guiding. Talalla Surf prides ourselves on our industry-leading video review, in-water coaching and theory sessions. These are extremely helpful for surfers looking to further progress their skills and take it to the next level. For intermediate/advanced surfers, we further limit the group size to a maximum of 4 people of a similar level.
We’d love to have you join us on your next surf holiday in Sri Lanka. Get in touch with us using this contact form, or read more about our Sri Lanka surf and surf & yoga retreat packages here.
