Garrett loves to ride Sri Lanka’s hidden waves on a variety of equipment from shortboards, longboards, hand planes and fishes, what ever can give him the best feeling.

The quality of surf coaching was far above my expectations, the passion and effort from Garrett to teach us as much as possible, not just in the week were there but to really set you up to continue surfing was unwavering. The genuine investment in everyone’s individual experience and development must be exhausting, but contributes vastly to the experience of the group – and of course shows in everyone’s progression.

I’m very uncoordinated and don’t have much strength so I still can’t quite believe that I was catching my own waves by the end – but it’s really a testament to the expertise of the coaches and teaching style.

The team culture overall is amazing, energy and enthusiasm is definitely not lacking.

Had a great week, met new friends, learned to surf – happy customer and I’m sure we’ll be back!

Tessa Higgins - Level 3 - Australia

As a return guest to Talalla Surf I knew what to expect. I had a brilliant time in 2014 when I last visited, my trip this time in 2018 exceeded my first experience. I once again had Garrett as a coach on my return visit. His personable, engaging and interested nature made him a pleasure to work with again.
Garrett showed genuine interest in getting to know his group over the week, this in turn helped them to enjoy their week at Talalla, progress in their surfing during their stay and install values and skills to help them become life long surfers.
The group reflected on the experience at the conclusion of the week - we all agreed that nothing could have changed except perhaps a longer stay!

On returning from my first visit I raved about Talalla Surf to all that would listen, I have continued my ranting on return from my most recent experience. I love that Talalla Surf has not lost sight of the original vision and that you continue to ensure that the experience of learning to surf or progressing in surfing with high quality, interested coaches remains in tact.
Thank you, see you again soon.

Garrett is a great instructor; his way of teaching, his positivity and continuous encouragement (even when I was falling face first), the attention he gives to each of us, while ensuring our safety along the way… I will definitely be back for level 2 🙂
Rawan Azar, No Experience, Jordan
I got what I want most from a coach/teacher, a coach that is still stoked about surfing (as much as i am as beginner) and has still lots of stoke to share. Outside the water there was always enough time for details, questions and answers, that I never felt unsatisfied. I made lots of progress, but mostly I learned lots about the universe around surfing. What I liked most and what really convinced me once more about the professionalism of the camp, is the way body movements and posture translates and connects to the board and…how simple it was to correct it with a little steps instead of overflowing us with info or even the wrong information. Watching lots of videos at home about the carving turns etc.. I’ve never found anything as closely detailed as the theory I got here….
Joe Koener, Level 4, Luxembourg
Thea Bourke, Level 2, Australia

Loved his energy and passion for his job and surfing in general.... encouraging, funny, enthusiastic and really knows his stuff. I was a very low level 2 and left the camp able to get my own waves and turn - this was all due to the advice I was given from Garrett. Having a mix of theory and prac along with a coach who made you enjoy every session was just amazing - I had been trying to surf for so long and in a short amount of time advanced well above what I thought I would.

Garrett was amazing as a coach, really broke the theory down for us. He's so encouraging and you can just see how passionate he is about teaching, all levels of surfing. Great vibe and so positive all the time.
Elise Hamil, Level 1, Australia
Alastair Willis - Level 4 - United Kingdom

The surf coaching was excellent. Garrett took us to some good surf spots which were great for catching lots of waves but also challenged us. Garrett is very enthusiastic and very good at explaining things clearly and eloquently. I think the small groups and the coaching are what really set Talalla Surf apart from the other surfcamps I have gone to - you really feel that the coaching is tailored to you and you can really see where you are going wrong and what you have improved on... It's the first camp I've been on where both me and my girlfriend have been properly catered for with coaching appropriate to our individual levels of surfing.

Without a doubt, you guys are the best surf instructors I’ve come across in so many levels. Andy, thanks for giving me all the care and support I needed and at the same time the freedom to learn from my mistakes, it helped me become a more independent surfer...

I believe your coaching methods are clear, suitable and unique, definitely an element of differentiation to other surf camps. I’ve met many intermediate and advanced surfers who either don’t think they can use further coaching or don’t think they can find it for their level, I wish they could all come to Talalla!

...You identified specific areas of improvement in each student and created an individual plan and goals for the week, this reassured me that I would progress no matter the level of my group mates. By the end of each week I knew exactly what I had been working on and was happy to have improved on it.

I did Level 1 with Andy. The whole experience exceeded expectations. I didnt expect to learn how to surf this much. Andy was a consummate professional and a cool dude at the same time. Couldnt be happier with how everything turned out. We will be back I'm sure.
Zeid Bataineh - Level 1 - Dubai
We have been two weeks within Andy's group and it was (like last year) the best surf-coaching experience we have ever had! Andy's skills to teach and improve our surfing abilities are amazing! In the way he's teaching and motivating the "team" he's also serving confidence to the individual surfers in the class - and this motivation gives you the power and strength to stay focussed and improve your surfing skills.
All over it's near to perfection in terms of surf coaching!
Rahel & Oli, Level 3 & 2, Switzerland
Adam Phua - Level 2 - Singapore

Had such a great experience at Level 1 last year that we had to come back for Level 2. And we will certainly be back again in 2018.

Really glad we got Andy again this year. When coaching in the water, he has a very good sense of what each student needs to hear to help them progress. He also strikes a good balance between giving advice/assistance and letting people work things out themselves.
The coach to student ratio is perfect.

The coaching was highly professional and beneficial. Everything was well organised and Andy's feedback was very valuable. In the water he was supportive and gave us security. We knew that we can trust his judgement and that he would never put us into situations that could become dangerous, at the same time, he always came up with new challenges.
Having had many different coaches before, there is really nothing I missed or that could be improved. Oh well there is one thing- don't sing "dancing in the moonlight" when I am around 😉 Thanks for helping me to bring my surfing to the next level, for being patient, for your constant motivation, and for all the fun sessions.

We got so much useful information and explanations from Tim, before we went first into the water. That was helpful, because the first experiences might ruin your whole week in case they are negative. We really started from scratch which is my expectation of a level 1 class, even though I already had some surf experiences. I felt over the whole week in good hands. We had a lot of fun, but Tim was always very concerned of our safety as well, which I appreciated. Everything was very well organized in terms of equipement, we always knew when and where we meet and the video analysis was really very helpful and held in a motivating and appreciating way.
The pool session was very useful for me, it helps you a lot once you are ready to try to catch your first green waves. The surf camp really exceeded my expectations! I wonna come back!
Karin Gartner - Level 1 - Austria
I found Tim to be an excellent coach and surfer. His patience, observation skills and willingness to teach and encourage our group made for a fun and relaxed environment to learn in.
A very calm, thoughtful and humble coach who was easy to communicate with.
Jason Warfe - Level 3 - Australia
Emma Corcoran - Level 1 - Ireland

The week was amazing from start to finish.
Tim is a fantastic coach, super patient, explains everything really well and good crack which is obviously the most important thing 🙂
I don't know how the week could have been better, loved it all!

Adam Lonsdale - Level 2 - United Kingdom

What can I say. I had a superb week.
Tim’s coaching is magnificent. It was great being in the water with him. He is a waterman and a leader and you really get to feel this as soon as you get in the truck, check out the surf and then go surf.
He is a giant calm even when the sea is rough. It was a real pleasure to spend time in the Indian Ocean with him and my fellowship for the week.
Tim’s tuition is great and as ever the post surf analysis really helps greatly. He is able to tell you and show you exactly what to work on. Thanks Tim and everyone at Talalla. Another satisfied customer (again) Best wishes, Adam

Week one - Level 1
Great experience, clear teaching of the surfing even to a non English speaker. Tim create a learning process that was adapted, progressive, challenging but not over challenging... So lots of fun ! Also made me feel safe about the ocean, the beaches features and the waves. The choices of surf spots were great.

Week two - Level 2 -
More challenging week in term of self progresses but framed by amazing coaching.
Very enjoyable moments.

Tye is a pretzel, who teaches other non-pretzels, how to make there bodies ever so slightly more ‘pretzley’.

As someone who shares a passion for both the practices of surfing and yoga, she knows how to make sure both your body and mind are ready for the experiences that await you.

Yoga with Tye was also excellent - she has such a great attitude and her classes were exactly what we needed before and after surfing. It's really well-tailored and she was a supportive and informative teacher, I really enjoyed the classes and workshops too!

As far as improvements go, I don't have too much to say because everything went so well. For the surfing, I really liked the format, it worked well for me. With surfing and yoga combined I found the day to be structured but not too much, it was a good balance.
Amy Faust - Level 1 - USA
I loved every minute of my time at Talalla. All surf coaches, Tye & Maria were super friendly & really welcoming. Tye is an amazing yoga teacher & I thoroughly enjoyed her workshops & yoga classes- I can't really think of anything to make the experience better.. everyone does an amazing job & their passion for surf & yoga is truly amazing & awesome . Thank you for getting me on my feet on the board & keeping safe in the ocean & grounded back at the yoga shala.

HERITAGE – PORTUGUESE
YEARS MANAGING OUR SURF&YOGA COMMUNITY – 2
QUALIFICATIONS –
Communication and International Marketing, M.A.
Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200)

Maria is here to help you, she loves to do it and she is amazing at it. Her goal is to make sure it is a breeze for you to get from your first thoughts about surf and yoga through the process of organising, booking & finally completing your amazing adventure with us.

Raised in the historic beach-side streets of Cascais; Portugal, and having resided in Paris & London whilst completing her Masters in Communication and International Marketing; Maria has a passion for the international Surf&Yoga community of past guests that has been growing around our program in our little fishing village in south Sri Lanka.

Always looking for ways we can make even a small difference in the communities and environments around us, she has been instrumental in helping us implement a ‘no-plastic’ approach to our Surf&Yoga program and keeps our community informed via our monthly newsletter.

I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and comprehensive surfing experience. You guys have installed a sense of confidence in me and also a sense of responsibility when it comes to surfing. I have an appreciation and respect for the ocean and also for the other surfers in the water.

The complete experience from the enquiry and booking process (Maria was an absolute rock-star!! Thank you so much Maria!) to the teaching to the resort and all facilities... I could not have asked for more.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
I will be back!!!!!
Danielle Stanners - Level 1 - Dubai
Tessa Higgins - Level 2 - Australia

It was lovely to meet and spend time with Maria on the retreat. Putting a face to the name behind email correspondence was lovely, it was great to have a 'guest services' staff member looking out for the guests in regards to the whole trip. The trip to Galle was brilliant, long enough to see the main sights, not too long that we missed out on important retreat elements.

We walked into Talalla and were overwhelmed by how amazing the physical premises were. Just blown away. The treatment when we arrived was first class, and then when we entered the shala and met Maria and our group, we knew we were in a very special place. The entire week was a dream, an absolute highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. They looked after us and created a truly peaceful and positive vibe, while keeping us all together and allowing the group dynamics to develop.

As for the rest of the team, what a group of brilliant people. We felt so welcomed by the team, including the guys who own the surf camp and by the end of it we didn't want to leave. I loved it, my girlfriend loved it. See you for Level 2 soon! (seriously, we're working out when we can come back right now)
Dave Zwolenski - Level 1 - Australia
Karolina Jackson - Level 2 - Sweden

A big thank you to everyone, No need to change a thing! Thanks Maria for always replying to our questions quicker than lightning, arranging for our early arrival when we’d mixed up the days!

Feeling very grateful and blessed and will of course return!
